KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM
Overview
When we envision the students in their academic learning and development throughout their time at Dunnville Christian School, we see students participating in God’s story of redemption and transformation. We strive to create spaces and learning activities in Junior and Senior Kindergarten that will prepare and equip them for Grade 1-8, and beyond, engaging student’s curiosity and wonder for God’s creation with opportunities to deeply and authentically care for creation, through both the physical care of God’s world and in the relationships that they are placed in, becoming a community that reflects the love of Jesus. Every aspect of the JK and SK programs is rooted in a Christian biblical worldview and all learning builds on this foundation. Open House We offer a Kindergarten Open House for interested families to explore what DCS can offer. The next Open House will be in 2025, specific date TBD. Siblings are welcome. Junior & Senior Kindergarten at DCS lays the foundation for success in Grade 1 through:

Junior Kindergarten - Mrs. Laura DeHaan
My deep hope is that students will grow and flourish as individuals and friends, becoming a community of God’s beloved children. We will strive to use our space purposefully and with care for God’s creation. We will always attempt to learn with joy and wonder. Students will be challenged to achieve ongoing goals throughout the year, from practising school routines and rules to growing in their faith and service to others. Learning targets in math, reading, art, music, drama, creation studies and physical education will be met, alongside developing skills in self-regulation, conflict resolution, responsibility and communication. With God’s Word as the foundation for all our learning, students will discover truths like God made them unique, God created the earth, God gave us friends, God created us curious, God created order and God gave me a family, among other units throughout the year that will help them learn about God’s world and their place in it. |
Senior Kindergarten - Mrs. Carol Mellema
My deep hope is that students know they are a reflection of God’s love, exploring His awesome creation, sharing discoveries and reflecting His light along the way. I will help students grow and learn more about the world God has created. I will strive to encourage and motivate these young students to learn more about their Creator and His love for them each and every day. Students will learn about God’s great love through the overarching story of the Bible, from Creation, Israel’s journey and Christ’s birth, death and resurrection. These lessons serve as the foundation for many of the learning activities in Creation Studies, Music and Art. Readiness in Reading and Mathematics, along with Phonemic Awareness, is essential to each student’s success in Grade 1 and beyond. From name recognition, printing, memorization, blending sounds and rhyming, to patterns, graphs, sequencing, skip counting and shapes, many different structured and free play activities support student comprehension in these key areas. Physical Education focuses on helping students to develop their gross motor skills, body awareness & body identification, coordination, cooperation and a general understanding of hygiene, safety and fitness. |
